Physical Activity Program

Physical Activity and Socialization During the Pandemic

Much has been said about the negative impact of Social Distancing and the Stay at Home orders on the mental health of the population in general, and of children and teenagers specifically.  The inability to take part in organized physical activity, and to socialize at school with their friends, has a significant negative effect on their physical and emotional well-being.

"For children and adolescents, moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and exercise during the day are associated with elevations in self-esteem, improved concentration, reductions in depressive symptoms, and improvements in sleep." (University of Michigan, Dept. of Psychiatry).

For these reasons we have created a program that will allow our children to exercise and develop their physical skills in an environment where they can participate alongside their peers.  This program will enforce all of the social distancing and Coronavirus prevention measures recommended by the Fresno County Department of Health.

Example measures:

  • Daily screening of all staff and students (attested to by parents).
  • Sanitizing of hands on arrival, and departure.
  • Sanitizing all equipment before and after use .
  • Minimum of 6 feet distance at ALL times (typically much further).
  • Face covering worn to and from (not during) activity.

All of our sessions are designed and taught by sports and recreation professionals, including former educators and CUSD employees.  All are background checked and experienced practitioners in child physical development.  The curriculum is created around the California Department of Education Model Standards for Physical Education to ensure that all students are challenged to develop the skills appropriate for their age.

The sessions are non-sport specific and are applicable to athletes and non-athletes.

Times and Locations

Sessions will be held either Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Thursday and will be 1 hour long.  You will be able to request your preference for session beginning on the hour, from 8am up to 11am, and 3pm to 5pm.  You will also be able to request your preference on location.  At this time we will be utilizing, Fig Garden Loop Park, Todd Beamer Park and Gettysburg Park.

To maximize our ability to group people appropriately (due to the requirement for stable pods of less than 10) please  select all locations and times that will work for you.

Below are a couple of sample sessions for different age groups, so you can see the types of activities your child may participate in, and how they relate to the California Standards for PE.

Also, we have attached the Standards so that you can see the for yourself.

There is also a link to the Fresno County Dept, of Health Guidelines that we will be following.
